The desert in Afghanistan with military vehicles are rolling through, and Tony Stark is in one of them holding a glass of liquor, as he is having a conversation with the soldiers in the vehicle, there is then an ambush on the vehicles.   

What connotations do the images carry? 

These images are important because in this ambush is where Tony gets injured and it's how his journey to becoming Iron Man starts.

How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? 

The opening scene is more action than sci-fi but that scene sets the whole plot.

The opening scene establishes the mystery of what's going with the Tony Stark.
What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? 

Tony Stark's survival depends on the technology he made that controls his heart, because there was too much damage from his injuries, and that suit leads to the creation of Iron Man's suit and the technology that is in it.
How has technology been used effectively? You might want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing techniques. 

The camera angles made the made the scene effective because after the explosion they focused on Tony and how he tried to shield himself from the shootings around him, then transitions to Stark being tied up by the Afghanistan soldiers as a hostage of war.

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? 

The image of a man being tied up with a magical orange string being held by the villains of the plot that have a dark symbol carved on their heads, with their leader opening an ancient book and reading a ritual then cutting pf that man's head in sacrifice. Then the group runs out of the building and then they have a magical fight with some person in a yellow coat. Then it switches to Doctor Strange washing his hands.
What connotations do the images carry? 

The images show who the villains are in the plot, and bring in a mysterious figure in a yellow coat.
How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? 

The villains are performing a magic ritual, and using magical orange rope or magical shields to fight each other.
How does the film establish an enigma from the outset? 

The enigma is the person in the figure in the yellow coat.
What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience? 

The used of the magic orange shields, portals, and weapons are apart of the sci-fi aspects, and also the yellow coat opens up the mirror dimension.
How has technology been used effectively? You might want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing techniques. 

Technology was used effectively because all the special effects are because of technology, and the transition from a fighting scene to a doctor washing his hands is intriguing, also how the camera angle does not show who the person in the yellow coat is.
