Evaluation of my Peer Reviews

What specific elements of the film opening did you like? What specific elements of the film opening did you dislike? Did this look like a movie opener and did it make you want to know what happens next? Explain. Was there anything that left you confused? (be specific) What suggestions do you have to make this movie opener better? I like the different angles and speed throughout the movie opener. It was fun to watch. I dislike how it was difficult to hear him in the beginning. It does look like a movie opener. I am left to wonder why he is kidnapped and who is next. Nothing was confusing. Definitely have better sound in the beginning. A different weapon would be more reasonable. Also, the girls approached him very slowly, It may be better if they ran. All the camera angles. Inconsistent audio for the intro call, Yes, and it does make ...

Editing 2

Image
During the final week of editing we had added various sound effects, and used both diegetic and non diegetic sound effects. The sound effects helped make this opener feel more action packed. This weeks editing took about an hour, we titled it Revenge and Mia added the title screen with our group members names in it.

Editing 1

Image
Our group decided that Emma would be the main person editing our project. This clip that is being edited is one of the beginning scenes in our opening. We also decided on which transitions to use during this week.

filming 2

Image
This I a picture from when we finished filming. Mia and I had gotten out of the car and opened the back of Loren’s car for Emma to see that we had got Robin in the back of the car. This photo was taken in the Lely parking lot on a cloudy day.

Beginning to film

Image
Our group began filming this week. We needed to choose a location that was best for everyone so we decided the band parking lot was a good place to shoot. We went after school and it was cloudy so it wasn’t super bright.  The first picture is one of our group members boyfriend as he was one of the characters in the film and this is one of the angles we used to shoot.  In the second photo is group member Mia who is placing the prop we needed for the scene before we started filming.

movie opener brainstorming and research

Rise : There are many extreme close ups in this clip, followed by panning shots and fast zooms. The audience hears the upbeat music which creates a feeling of excitement only for that music to add tension to the situation as it's happening. Dear Lover: The clip starts by the audience hearing upbeat music, followed by a romantic moment between both characters, a voice over is added which strengthens the connection between the audience and the characters. The ending leaves the audience wanting more. Dare to Thrill: The intro begins with lots of action and music that does not really match what is happening in the film. However, as the video progresses the point and actions become confusing, I'm assuming they pulled over because they heard something in the trunk but it is unclear. Always Watching: Built up suspense, was not completely sure what was happening like I think it was a therapy session, the editing in the end of switching from person to person really helped build suspens...

Film opening research

Film Opening Research #1- Iron Man How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?  the production companies, the pace where the opening scene takes place, the movie title What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?  The desert in Afghanistan with military vehicles are rolling through, and Tony Stark is in one of them holding a glass of liquor, as he is having a conversation with the soldiers in the vehicle, there is then an ambush on the vehicles.    What connotations do the images carry?  These images are important because in this ambush is where Tony gets injured and it's how his journey to becoming Iron Man starts. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?  The opening scene is more action than sci-fi but that scene sets the whole plot. How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?  The opening scene establishes the mystery of what's going with the Tony Stark. What ...

Agent Carter mise-en-scene

In the introduction of the clip the scene goes back and forth between Captain America and Agent Cater, as Steve is about to die doing something heroic. There is frontality shots and shallow spacing used when shooting from behind Captain America, in order to make the audience feel like they are in the spaceship with Steve. When it cuts to Agent Carter on the other line of the phone, she is being shot from the front. In both settings there is low lighting, so you can only focus on Steve and Peggy when they are exchanging their final words. There is also sad instrumental music playing in the background in order to enhance the tragic moment.  The scene then fades out into a deep spacing shot of New York City that has the Brooklyn bridge in focus with the towers and buildings in the distance. Before this shot fades out the sound of an alarm is going off, as the scene cuts to a closeup of the flashing red alarm going off at Peggy's work. The alarm going off means that there is an a...

mise-en-scene

I decided to comment on the mise-en-scene of the Francis Lawrence movie, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." I chose this movie because the Hunger Games series is one of my favorite movie series, and this one has the best examples of mise-en-scenes, especially for costumes and makeup. I wanted to show appreciation to the elaborate costumes and sets that are used to create the movie.  After the first few scenes of the movie the main character, Katniss Everdeen, is summoned to meet with the the president of Panem, President Snow. Snow is sitting at his desk and Katniss is sitting in front of him. There is low-key lighting in the scene, which comes from a stain glass window behind Snow. This low-key lighting is meant to show grimness and seriousness, and Snow and Katniss are talking about Katniss' actions in the previous Hunger Games, and how there are major consequences to her actions. Also the blocking in this scene has the President sitting in front of an icy stain glass w...

5 edits with sound effects

Image
 1. Music: In the first video of symbolism, I used the Avengers theme song, because the first part starts off with a group of fictional heroes then transitions to a group of local heroes. 2.Post Synchronization Dubbing: I added two different sounds of post synchronization that were not apart of the original video. In the first shot of me with the calculator, I added the sound of a clock ticking. I used this sound because math is a stressful subject and all I can hear when I take math quizzes or tests is a clock ticking and the rush to finish before the bell. The second part I used a boing sound because that was the closest thing I could find to match the sound of crossy road. 3.Non-Diegetic: In the first clip I used the sound of crickets, because the class was very quiet and boring. In the second clip I used the sound of children cheering because they were acting like children and you could see the joy on their face from acting like children.  4.Post Synchronization Dubbing: I...

Three edit choices in the Titanic

Image
This is the simultaneity scene. In this scene the staff are informing the guests that they need to get the stuff they need and evacuate their floor and get to the top deck. This is the floor that the wealth guests are staying on, and they are the privileged ones that get access to the life boats. The designer of the boat thought the Titanic thought it was unsinkable, so life boats were not necessary and there is only enough for half of the people on the ship. These guests don't know it yet but the boat is sinking during this scene and many have already died. This is the parallelism scene. Leading up to this scene a group of deep sea divers were exploring the shipwreck of the Titanic looking for the Heart of the Ocean necklace, and found the safe that contained the drawing that Jack did of Rose. The drawing was put onto the news, which is when Rose, who is now 103, saw it and called the ship saying she had information about the drawing. So, Rose and her granddaughter were f...
